Quigg set to make Giant move

Seymour’s Nic Quigg is set to take the next step in his footballing career following his signing with the GWS Giants VFL side. The move will mean a relocation to Sydney for Quigg, following his first full season of senior football in 2023.

Quigg made his way through junior football in dominant fashion before captaining the Murray Bushrangers in the NAB League and finishing second in their Best & Fairest in 2022. He went on to make his debut in the VFL for the Coburg Lions last season, playing most of the year with the Seymour Lions.

The move will allow Quigg to train with some of the best footballers in the nation in a professional environment.

Seymour President Gerard O’Sullivan said the club was incredibly proud of Quigg’s achievements.

“Nic was an outstanding junior footballer and we’re looking forward to him taking another huge step in his career,” Mr O’Sullivan said.

“While it’s a shame to lose Nic around the club, we couldn’t be happier to see him take this opportunity, and we have no doubt he’ll make the most of it.

“To go into a VFL setup and professional environment will be a big change but a massive progression for Nic’s football.”

While Quigg is expected to be in Sydney for the majority of the season the club is holding out hope for a couple of appearances at the Lions in 2024.

“Nic has listed Seymour as his home club, so hopefully, if the chance arises, we can sneak him in for a couple of games this year,” Mr O’Sullivan said.

“We’ve got a great young midfield and several boys with VFL experience, which is only going to make the club stronger.

“We wish Nic all the best. He’s a great young kid, and we can’t wait to follow his performances from afar this year.”

A slow start in the first quarter saw the Lions give up a three goal advantage, one they worked hard at pegging back through the middle quarters. Despite dominating play in the third quarter, with 9 scoring shots to 3, some inaccurate kicking cost the Lions a chance to have their noses in front going into the final term. Echuca proved too good in the last, running over the top to claim the win. Nathan Beattie, Jack Murphy and James Wooster remained consistent, winning plenty of ball through the middle of the ground, while Lewis Lubeck worked up the field and played a strong game in his 50th for the club.
