Seymour 15 - Swans 56

The Shepparton Swans are always a well-oiled outfit, and it proved to be a tough start to the day for the Lions, who were forced to play catch up after a big first quarter.

Eden Webster was the stand-out player on the court, leading from the back with strong defensive pressure in the ring and great transition out of defence.

Sophie Butterworth showed her versatility, playing at both ends of the court, and used her speed and height to feed the ball to Isabel and Ivy.

While it was a tough encounter for the Lions, there will be plenty of lessons learnt and some great opportunities to work on a better performance next week against the Bears.

Club Dinner Award: Eden Webster

Trawool Shed - Cafe, Cottages & Restaurant UNDER 17s

Seymour 24 - Swans 62

The Lions got out of the blocks quickly with a great first quarter and silky passages of play, and they were right in the game at quarter time.

Unfortunately, a 20-goal second quarter from the Swans put Seymour on the back foot and in a difficult position to recover from.

The midcourters came back after halftime with plenty of drive, supported by a defensive team that worked well under pressure.

The last quarter saw the Lions bring a stronger overall team effort, with the goalers working tirelessly to make the most of their opportunities.

O’Sullivan Builders Award: Taylah Mason

O’SULLIVAN BUILDERS B RESERVE

Seymour 44 - Swans 31

The O’Sullivan Builders B Reserve team continued its strong form with a solid 13 goal win over the Swans.

Toni Bootland and Sarah Waite held the defensive end of the court together, combing well to delay the movement of the Swans’ goalers.

Ruby Trimble was a strong presence off the line with active feet creating major turnovers and scoring opportunities.

Grace Barry put together a best-on-court performance, carrying the ball continuously down the court, where Mariah Baumann and Shona Gesler finished the job.

Seymour Hardware Group B GRADE

Seymour 55 - Swans 46

Another great win on Saturday for the Seymour Hardware Group B Grade against the Swans.

After a tight first half the Lions put on a show in the second half to take the game away from the Swans, highlighted by an 18 goal final term.

The Lions were defensively strong all day, providing strong pressure which allowed for turnovers to be capitalised upon by the goalers.

Fast, hard and direct drives from the midcouters ensured the Lions got over the line, led by a best on court performance from Lucy Zotti.

Whistle Award: Lucy Zotti

Beer Auto Group Seymour A GRADE

Seymour 59 - Swans 48

The Beer Auto Group Seymour A Grade is on the winner’s list after a close loss to Tatura last week.

The Lions flew out of the blocks with a 19 goal first term, with Ally Black and Ellie Fuhremister controlling the attacking end of the court to put the pressure on the Swans.

Liv Barry showed determination at every contest, rejecting multiple passes, leading to positive turnovers and scoring opportunities.

It was fantastic to see Sarah Szczykulski back on the court, combining with Ruby Martin to maintain strong defensive pressure despite a surge in the third quarter from the Swans.

Eleisha Saunders showed great composure across the court in her first game at the club.

Club Canteen Award: Sophie Rutherford

Seymour FNC News

By Mitch Itter June 22, 2026
The Seymour Football Netball Club (SFNC) will celebrate a significant milestone this weekend, with Senior Co-Coach and Captain Jack Murphy set to play his 150th senior game for the Lions. Since making his senior debut in 2015, Murphy has established himself as one of the premier players in the Goulburn Valley League. Over the past decade, Murphy has built an outstanding football resume. A dual Senior Best & Fairest winner, GVL Interleague representative, League MVP and former Coburg VFL player, he has consistently performed at an elite level while representing the Lions with distinction. While his individual achievements are impressive, Murphy's influence extends far beyond the football field. Renowned for his professionalism, work ethic and commitment to the club, he has played a significant role in driving standards and helping develop the next generation of Lions players. Now serving as Senior Co-Coach, Murphy continues to lead from the front each week and remains one of the competition's most influential midfielders. SFNC President Peter Elliott said Murphy's contribution to the Lions over the past 11 seasons has been remarkable. “Murph has been an outstanding servant of our football club and thoroughly deserves this recognition,” Mr Elliott said. “His achievements on the field are exceptional, but it's the way he goes about it that sets him apart. “He's one of the hardest workers at the club, a fantastic leader and someone who is so passionate about the success of the Seymour Lions. “He's represented our club with distinction throughout his career and continues to set the standard both as a player and coach. “To reach 150 senior games is a fantastic achievement and one that both Murph and everyone associated with the club should be proud of. “We're incredibly fortunate to have had Murph at Seymour for so long and look forward to seeing him continue to make an impact in the years ahead.”
