GDG: Josh Porter carried on from last week and had a dominant display in middle and kicking 4 goals

CWM: Cooper Holdsworth-Rose used his big frame in the middle to set the tone for the day, got plenty of the footy and helped drive us forward.

Canteen Award: Ryder Primrose patrolled the half back and marked strongly

Thursday Night Dinner: Hugh Murphy used his athletic ability to jump all over the opposition ruckman for the day, giving the mids first service. If possible, leave assumption players off the goal kicking  or don’t mention goal kickers so the school doesn’t get upset

O'Keefe's IGA Seymour Reserves

Seymour 6.12.48 - Benalla 5.3.33

The Reserves put together a gritty win with a undermanned team, taking over the game in the final quarter.

The Lions started strongly with Jardine Nai kicking a great goal early in the game.

It proved a tight arm wrestle from there with Will Laird leading the charge across the ground with plenty of run and carry and strong defensive pressure.

The defenders repelled plenty of defensive 50 entries, with Jack Davey picking up plenty of intercept possessions and Scott McMaster strongly rebounding the footy.

Both Ishaq Ali and Harry Palmer provided a strong presence across the ground the keep the ball moving.

At the start of the last term the Lions peppered the goals with a run of behinds before kicking a couple of goals to grab an important win.

Best: W Laird, S McMaster, J Davey, I Ali, H Palmer

Goals: J Morgan 2, D Saunders 1, D Short 1, J Nai 1, R Graham 1

Seymour Club Seniors

Seymour 21.15.140 - Benalla 13.7.85

The Seniors have broken through for their first win after the season after a big second half against Benalla to record a nine goal win.

The Lions got off to a great start in the first quarter with a snap from big man Todd Lawrence getting the boys up and about.

Benalla bounced back in the second quarter to make it anyone’s game at half time.

A seven goal third term and eight goal final quarter saw the Lions take the game away and record a thumping victory.

Jack Murphy and Nathan Beattie continued to dominate in the midfield with Nugget finding plenty of ball around the ground and Murph picking up disposals at will.

Tayte Lewis showed trademark determination in the centre, always hard at the footy and tackling with great skill and effort.

While the defensive end held up incredibly well it was the forwards who put together some big days.

Nathan Fowler presented strongly throughout the day with some great contested marking in the forward 50 and four goals.

The star of the show was undoubtedly Riley Mason who dominated the game, with Benalla unable to match his skill in one on one situations or when the ball hit the ground. Often left one on one as the deepest forward, Riley took full advantage, booting eight goals in an awesome display.

The boys enjoyed a great feed at the Seymour Club following the game and are stoked to be lacing up the boots with Dave Mundy this weekend.

Best: R Mason, J Murphy, N Fowler, N Beattie, T Lewis

Goals: R Mason 8, N Fowler 4, J Murphy 2, T Lawrence 2, L Hockley 1, R Schraven 1, C Thomson 1, S Thomson 1, C Lubeck 1

Seymour FNC News

By Mitch Itter June 22, 2026
The Seymour Football Netball Club (SFNC) will celebrate a significant milestone this weekend, with Senior Co-Coach and Captain Jack Murphy set to play his 150th senior game for the Lions. Since making his senior debut in 2015, Murphy has established himself as one of the premier players in the Goulburn Valley League. Over the past decade, Murphy has built an outstanding football resume. A dual Senior Best & Fairest winner, GVL Interleague representative, League MVP and former Coburg VFL player, he has consistently performed at an elite level while representing the Lions with distinction. While his individual achievements are impressive, Murphy's influence extends far beyond the football field. Renowned for his professionalism, work ethic and commitment to the club, he has played a significant role in driving standards and helping develop the next generation of Lions players. Now serving as Senior Co-Coach, Murphy continues to lead from the front each week and remains one of the competition's most influential midfielders. SFNC President Peter Elliott said Murphy's contribution to the Lions over the past 11 seasons has been remarkable. “Murph has been an outstanding servant of our football club and thoroughly deserves this recognition,” Mr Elliott said. “His achievements on the field are exceptional, but it's the way he goes about it that sets him apart. “He's one of the hardest workers at the club, a fantastic leader and someone who is so passionate about the success of the Seymour Lions. “He's represented our club with distinction throughout his career and continues to set the standard both as a player and coach. “To reach 150 senior games is a fantastic achievement and one that both Murph and everyone associated with the club should be proud of. “We're incredibly fortunate to have had Murph at Seymour for so long and look forward to seeing him continue to make an impact in the years ahead.”
